So, wanna dance baby?

ACID house has thrown City Life some cultural curveballs over the years but none are as charming as a project by Sale mother of two Naomi Timperley taking place at Pure nightclub in the Printworks on Sunday - a club 'night' aimed at children from six months up to seven years called Baby Loves Disco.

It's the chance for parents to get out and bring their kids into a whole new environment of play within the near luxurious surroundings of the city's enormous Pure nightclub.

"A lot of people just think that children only want to hear 'Bob the Builder' or 'The Wheels on the Bus' but we have proven that they just want to hear music and sound," explains Naomi. "It all started last September when I was trawling the internet for information on children and dancing for a project I was working on.

This event called Baby Loves Disco came up which I've never heard of. So I did a little more digging and got in contact with the people behind it to discover that they were running events for parents and kids in twenty two cities across the United States and filling venues too! It was an incredible revelation. So rather than just copy them I thought I'd join them and help set up the first UK events in Manchester and London.

The party which takes place Sunday from 2pm is just as much for the adults as the kids as bringing up kids, according to Naomi, can really taken the wind out one's social life. Dedicated DJs supply a low volume soundtrack of house and hip hop which gives the children the chance to throw shapes on the dancefloor under strict parental supervision.

Onto the logistics.

The venue itself is triple cleaned by Naomi and her team having been explored fully for health and safety issues. Once she's happy, the Baby Loves Disco crew then go about setting up organic juice bars, nappy changing areas, chill out areas for parents and kids and even complimentary free massages for mums that might need it.

And here's now for the kicker. Over in the US the brand has just started releasing compilation CDs compiled and mixed by a fascinatingly hip set of producers.

Amusement

"Ziggy and Steve Marley have put together a Baby Loves Reggae mix CD," explains Naomi much to City Life's amusement. "There's a house CD mixed by King Britt and even a Baby Loves Hip Hop mix put together by Prince Paul. It really is a whole expanding movement."

Wonders never cease in the post acid house world.

Caty Cartwright is one such parent looking forward to bringing her two year old daughter to Sundays event. She's a Baby Loves Disco first timer and intrigued by the prospect of an energetic workout for her daughter as well as a bit of fun for her.

"Your social life is often the first casualty of having children," she says, "so I'm intrigued by the prospect of this party. It'll be good for my daughter to get out there and have new experiences. Plus dancing is really good exercise."

"In many activities that we as parents leave the house for the adults are just spectators," says Naomi. "The kids play in a pool of plastic balls whilst the parents sit around drinking tea. With what we're doing here I'm bring parents back into the play. It's great when you see Dad's and their kids on the dancefloor dancing away with the lights and music. They're all at the sidelines at the beginning but by the end they're as up for it as everybody else.

"In fact by the end of the party it's just like any nightclub that I used to go to in my regular clubbing days. You'll always find a few kids and parents shouting for one more tune not wanting it too end!"
