Which chemicals in our baby's toys are dangerous? The answer is sadly,  nearly all of them (see below). But don't despair....we have lots of fun and beautiful toys which are safe for babies and toddlers.

  • Phthalates. These are chemicals used to soften PVC plastic and are often found in toys. Research has shown that phthalates can build up in the body, and tests have shown they can damage the development of reproductive organs.
  • Organotin compounds. These chemicals are used as a stabiliser in PVC. They are found in vinyl flooring and harder PVC toys. These have been found to cause hormonal changes.
  • Bisphenol A (BPA). This chemical is used in babies feeding bottles. BPA helps to make plastic clear and shatterproof. It is also used to line food tins and the metal lids of jars, and as a flame retardant. Some studies have suggested that these chemicals disrupt the body's hormone system and are linked to chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes.
