Mt Retour Organic Frankincense Essential Oil Review

Posted on 15 July 2016

Mt Retour Organic Frankincense Essential Oil would have to be one of my favourite oils and definitely one I use every single day. I always carry a bottle in my bag and there's one in the bathroom and another in the bedroom. My love affair with Frankincense oil began a couple of years ago when I first smelt it wafting down my hallway – my sister was staying with me and she was using it for her sinus problem. I tried inhaling and dotting some on my cheeks and above my eyebrows and found it quite helpful in opening up my nasal passages. Apart from that, I really liked the scent of Mt Retour Organic Frankincense Essential Oil to wear as a perfume.

Mt Retour Frankincense Essential Oil

Wanting a good quality organic essential oil, I did a bit of searching on the internet and found the Mt Retour company which was started in the Blue Mountains in Australia in 2004 and accredited in 2005 by Australian Certified Organic (ACO). I was really excited to find a company that was 100% Australian owned and manufacturing their own organic essential oils cruelty free and I've been using their organic frankincense oil ever since.

Frankincense has a woody sort of smell that grows on you the more you use it. I often find myself reaching for it subconsciously and then realising that it's because I need it for something that's happening in my body. I thought I just liked to use it as a perfume but it's a powerful oil for alleviating anxiety and depression or just bringing mental peace if you're feeling a bit stressed. I use a drop or two on my sternum area – I've been told this particular point is known as the 'screw you' point which is for when you're feeling angry or stressed with someone – and another couple of drops at the base of my skull. Both of these points are used for calming and grounding. You can also diffuse Frankincense oil if there's a bit of angst in the house. I do this when I have visitors, even when they're 'good' visitors – it keeps everyone on an even keel and is a natural deodoriser to boot.

Traditionally Frankincense has been closely associated with religious rites and is said to increase our intuition and spiritual connection – we all know the story of the 3 wise men bringing gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. I find Organic Frankincense Essential Oil helps me to think clearly and focus on the task at hand.

Frankincense oil works really well for muscle and joint pain. I mix a few drops with jojoba oil and apply to the affected area. You could use it neat but mixing with a carrier oil makes it go a bit further. I've also used this same mixture as a facial moisturiser as Frankincense oil has astringent and anti-ageing properties and is a great cell regenerator, plus it smells good.

I have used it neat to stop bleeding, though I did have to apply it a couple of times to a big cut before it stopped. My personal best result to date has been the complete disappearance of a sun spot on my forearm. It took a few weeks but I just put one drop of oil on the spot every morning after my shower. I noticed a whiteish raised hard lump which seemed to come out of nowhere but the Dr assured me it was a sun spot or 'age' spot – I prefer sun spot! After a few days of applying the oil the spot dried out and went flaky. I did scratch the flaky bit off but still kept applying the oil. It remained raised and white for a couple more weeks but eventually there was just a small mark left. Now I am hard pressed to find the exact spot as I can't even feel a difference in the texture of my skin and there is no difference in colour to the rest of my arm.

My husband is also using Mt Retour Organic Frankincense Essential Oil on his sun spots and skin tags, he is having some success but not as quickly as I did. Possibly because I look after my skin and my general health a bit better than he does – oops, did I just write that!

Thank you Mt Retour, I'm sure I'll be using some of your other organic essential oils and I've seen that you have some lovely blends available as well. It's great to see that as well as being a 100% Australian company, you also use recycled materials in your packaging.
